Self Archiving Policy

UNZA JABS Self-Archiving Policy

The University of Zambia Journal of Agricultural and Biomedical Sciences (UNZA JABS) supports the principles of open access and encourages authors to self-archive their scholarly work in a manner that ensures broad dissemination and long-term accessibility.

1. What Can Be Archived

Authors are permitted to deposit the final accepted version of their manuscript (i.e., post-peer-review and pre-typeset) in:

  • Institutional repositories (e.g., UNZA Research Repository)
  • Personal or departmental websites
  • Academic social networks (e.g., ResearchGate, Academia.edu)
  • Disciplinary repositories aligned with open-access standards

Pre-print versions (submitted manuscripts before peer review) may only be shared if this has been disclosed during submission and approved by the editorial office.

2. Embargo and Media Conditions

  • Material submitted to UNZA JABS should not be shared with the media before acceptance.
  • For accepted articles, authors may engage with media no more than one week before the official publication date, in accordance with journal embargo conditions.
  • Breach of these conditions may result in the suspension or withdrawal of publication.

3. Version and Attribution

When self-archiving:

  • Authors must share the final accepted manuscript (FAM), not the typeset publisher version, unless otherwise permitted.
  • Authors must include full citation details, including the journal name, volume, issue, and year.
  • A link to the final published version on the UNZA JABS website must be provided using the article’s DOI or persistent URL.

4. Repository Guidelines

Authors are encouraged to use repositories that:

  • Are recognized by their institutions or research funders
  • Support metadata indexing and long-term digital preservation
  • Comply with open-access mandates, including those from funders or postgraduate requirements

5. Compliance and Support

Failure to comply with this policy may result in:

  • Delays in publication
  • Retraction or correction notices in severe cases
