Copyright Policy

UNZA JABS Copyright Policy

1. Originality and Exclusive Submission

  • Manuscripts submitted must be original, not published previously (except in theses or abstracts), and not under consideration elsewhere.
  • Submission implies that authors confirm these conditions in both their cover letter and title page.

2. Automatic Copyright Transfer

  • By submitting, authors agree to transfer copyright of the accepted manuscript to UNZA JABS.
  • This includes rights to reproduce, publish, and distribute the work in print and electronic formats, worldwide, for the life of the work.

3. Licensing Terms

  • Published JABS articles are distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY). This allows unrestricted reuse, copying, distribution, and adaptation, as long as appropriate credit is given to the original author(s).

4. Author Warranties

Authors must confirm that:

  • They own or have permission for all content in the manuscript (text, images, data, tables).
  • Any third-party material included has proper attribution and explicit permission prior to submission.
  • The manuscript contains no plagiarism, as all submissions undergo plagiarism checks.

5. Permissions for Third‑Party Material

  • Authors are responsible for obtaining permission for any non-original material (e.g., figures, tables, code).
  • Permissions must cover print and electronic formats under CC BY terms and extend for the life of the work.
  • Proof of permission should accompany the manuscript; failure to do so could delay or prevent publication.

6. Indemnity

  • Authors indemnify UNZA JABS against any legal claims arising from copyright infringement, plagiarism, or unauthorized use of third-party content.

7. Retention of Author Rights

Under CC BY license, authors retain the right to:

  • Use, share, and adapt their own work, including figures and data, in future publications, teaching, and conferences.
  • Repost their work on personal or institutional repositories, with proper citation to the JABS version.

8. Editorial and Publisher Rights

UNZA JABS reserves the right to:

  • Edit the work for clarity, format, or consistency.
  • Reject or withdraw manuscripts that violate this policy.
  • Issue retractions or corrections if copyright or licensing terms are breached post-publication.
